The NYSSB Culminating Project: A Yearlong Process

The Office of Bilingual ¶«¾©ÈÈ and World Languages (OBEWL) of the ¶«¾©ÈÈ (NYSED) presents this next webinar in its 2024 Professional Learning Series, The NYSSB Culminating Project: A Yearlong Process.Ìý This webinar is offered free of charge for educators and administrators working and studying in New York State educational institutions.

Webinar description: ÌýThis webinar will focus on the implementation of the culminating project into the World Language classroom. Participants will learn a school's journey into creating an equitable process. Participants will learn how to integrate the Seal of Biliteracy process and goals into their lessons by using the World Language Thematic units and Modes of communications to achieve the goals of both Checkpoint C courses and the Seal of Biliteracy. Specific examples will be provided and explained. If time allows, hands-on activities will allow teachers to begin to implement this model immediately in their classroom.

Registration process: ÌýAll participants are encouraged to pre-register for this event.Ìý Pre-registration will close on Wednesday, December 17, 2024; there will be no same-day registrations. Once the registrant's email address has been verified as being from a New York State school, college, or university, an email confirming their registration will be sent.Ìý Twenty-four hours prior to the event, all registered individuals will receive login instructions with the link to join the webinar.Ìý Only pre-registered attendees will be eligible for a certificate documenting attendance and/or CTLE hours.Ìý

Webinar presenter:Ìý Nancy Beiner has been teaching Spanish at John Jay Senior High School in Dutchess County for 26 years. She is the Teacher in Charge of the school's World Language Department and NYS Seal of Biliteracy Coordinator.Ìý Nancy has been heading the NYSSB committee at her school for 6 years and has attended many hours of professional learning about promoting multilingualism in schools. She is an active member of NYS Seal of Biliteracy Forum and World Language Leadership Council.
