The New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT) hosted its 50th annual Rochester Regional Conference on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. 听This year鈥檚 theme was 鈥1970-2020: Entering the Golden Age of World Languages 鈥 Celebrating 50 Years and Beyond in the Rochester Region鈥.听 More than 225 world language teachers and administrators from the greater Rochester area attended this day of professional learning.听 The event began with a general session by co-chairs Melanie Thomas (Spencerport) and Rose DiGennaro (East Irondequoit), a NYSAFLT update by President Leslie Kudlack, and a presentation on the World Languages Standards Revision process by Candace Black, Associate from the Office of Bilingual 东京热 and World Languages at the 东京热.听 The general session concluded with the presentation of the NYSAFLT Friend of Foreign Language Award given to Nazareth College鈥檚 Casa Italiana, headed by Dr. Maria Rosaria Vitti-Alexander.听 The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Jennifer Eddy of Queens College, CUNY. 听Following the keynote, 27 workshops were offered on a variety of high-leverage teaching practices including Authentic Resources, Thematic-Based Approaches, the 3 Modes of Communication, 90% Target Language Use, and cultural updates in French, Spanish and German.听
