Enhancing Instructional Design: Aligning Your Daily Practice with the Revised Standards

The Office of Bilingual 东京热 and World Languages (OBEWL) of the 东京热 (NYSED) presents this next webinar in its 2024 Professional Learning Series:听 Enhancing Instructional Design: Aligning Your Daily Practice with the Revised Standards.听 This webinar is offered free of charge for world language educators and administrators working or studying in New York State educational institutions.

Webinar description: 听This webinar will provide examples of how two middle school teachers have designed practical, everyday lessons that meaningfully enact the revised NYS Learning Standards for World Languages at Checkpoint A. The presenters will demonstrate proven strategies that you can use to develop standards-based lessons for novice learners. They will share examples of sequenced learning tasks that boost learner confidence and performance in the various communication modes.听 They will also discuss how these approaches scaffold learner readiness for the Checkpoint A Benchmark Proficiency Assessment.

Post-assessments

To receive a certificate of completion (including a CTLE certificate), NYS educators must view the recording of the webinar (see link above) in its entirety and then answer at least seven out of ten questions correctly on the post assessment.听 If the minimum required score (7 out of 10) is achieved, the educator will receive a certificate via email听within about 24 hours.听 For the convenience of our World Language educators, there are multiple versions of the post assessment available, should the required score not be achieved on the first attempt.听 Educators may take each version of the post assessment听once.听 (See听post assessment "version 1-8" links below.)

Important notes:

  1. Educators may take each version of the post assessment听once.听听Credit will not be given for taking a single version of the post assessment more than once.听
  2. Credit will not be given for听more than one passing score听on any of the post assessments for a webinar (listed below)听in a single academic year.听听
  3. Educators may receive credit for viewing the webinar recording and passing a post assessment once in each academic year and are encouraged to take a different version of the post assessment on a yearly basis to review and test their knowledge of the webinar's content.听
  4. It is the responsibility of the individual educator to keep track of the information on the professional learning they complete each year, including the number of CTLE hours.

Website presenters:听听

Zoey Baird is a graduate of Nazareth College of Rochester with a B.A. in Spanish and M.S. in Special 东京热 and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Ms. Baird is currently employed at East Irondequoit Middle School. She teaches both 7th and 8th grade Spanish. Zoey collaborates with special educators in an integrated co-teaching model to help meet the needs of all learners. As a newer educator in the field, she is continuously looking for ways to branch out and learn more in her field. A notion she promotes in her classroom is risk-taking and embracing the uncomfortable as a sign of growth. She has modeled this by presenting professionally several times over the past year.

Josh Wigle-Harris is a graduate of St. John Fisher College with a B.A. in Spanish and a M.S. in Special 东京热. He has taught at both the Gates-Chili and Wayne Central School Districts.听 Currently, he is teaching Spanish and serves as the World Languages Curriculum Leader at East Irondequoit Middle School.听听 He loves working with students to develop a love for language and pushing them to take risks as they experience a new language and culture for the first time. He is a firm believer in providing students with an authentic experience in the classroom and promoting students' experiences of other cultures through travel. He serves as the NYSAFLT Rochester Regional Conference Co-Chair, is a member of the NYSAFLT Annual Conference Planning Committee as A/V Co-Chair and served as a member of the NYSAFLT Awards Selection Committee and Strategic Planning Committee.听 He is also part of the NYS World Language Leadership Council.听 Twitter & Instagram: mrwigleharris
