Important Update on January Regents Exams

Earlier today, the State Department announced that – as a result of the unprecedented winter storm expected to impact much of the State – school districts will be given flexibility to administer all January 2015 Regents exams and Regents Competency Tests affected by the weather. This one-time change, made after consulting with our colleagues in the field, is intended to ensure the safety of all students and school employees while preserving the integrity of the State exams.

Exams rescheduled because of the weather should be administered as close as possible to the original administration window and, in all cases, must be completed by the end of the school day, Friday, January 30, 2015.

When the storm has passed, each school and district leader in a school or district impacted by weather-related closures must send to the Department a description of the date(s) on which schools were closed due to weather, which January Regents Exams and RCTs had to be canceled, when theyplan to administer the tests, and a comprehensive plan to ensure the security of exams and scoring materials during this time period.

** Although scoring materials will be available according to the previously posted schedule, schools may not access or distribute these scoring materials until all exams have been administered. Regents Exam booklets should be kept secure until 5 pm on Friday, January 30.
